THE WORLD’S biggest gambling punter Mattress Mack has lost a huge bet on the baseball that cost the equivalent of a Premier League star.

And the amount he lost could have bought him music mega-star Harry Styles’ LA mansion or NFL icon Patrick Mahomes’ entire property empire.

Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale has hit the headlines in the past for some of his outrageous bets – and mega losses.

Just last year the American won a record $75 million on Major League Baseball as the Houston Astros beat the Phillies in the World Series.

But he also lost $9.9m on the 2022 Super Bowl and a further $2.6m on the Kentucky Derby in the same year.

Now Mack has blown $7.9m after a number of wagers on the Astros to win the World Series again.

His hopes of scooping a potential $50m jackpot were scuppered on Monday by the Texas Rangers.

The 72-year-old was also caught on camera on the edge of his seat before slumping backwards and raising his hand to his face in dismay as Rangers went 8-2 up.

And they ultimately went on to claim a 11-4 win.

Mack, who is a furniture tycoon, has continuously bet on Houston to win the World Series for the past decade as part of a promotion for his Gallery Furniture business.

Should he be successful in his punt, he then uses the cash as promotional funds by giving his customers a free product as a way to hedge his bet but also give something back in return to the community.

He is believed to have had at least $7.9m riding on this year’s World Series, which equates to £6.5m and is more than the fee that Premier League side Fulham paid Wolves for Mexico striker Raul Jimenez this summer.

However, when asked how much he would stand to win, he replied: “Deep secret.”

But he has ended up with nothing as Houston failed to complete a comeback from 2-0 in the series.
