Winning jockey admits ‘we couldn’t see anything’ as ‘grisly’ thick fog descends rapidly at Brighton
WINNING jockey Saffie Osborne said ‘we couldn’t see anything’ after thick fog descended rapidly over Brighton racecourse.
Osborne was first past the post on 9-2 Musical Mystery in a Class 4 7f contest at 4.15pm.

But punters watching on TV and those in the crowd were absolutely clueless as to who was running where in the race.
The horses and jockeys finally emerged from the heavy fog with half a furlong to go.
Sky Sports Racing presenter Alex Hammond described the conditions as ‘grisly’ and added: “It looks absolutely horrendous.
“The horses and grooms are getting an absolute pelting in the weather.”
The jockeys were consulted by racecourse staff about continuing amid the thick fog.
And though racing has been called off at the track before in such conditions, they were happy to continue.
Osborne said after victory: “No one could see anything.
“I’m not going to lie I was panicking saying ‘has anyone got a spare pair of goggles?’
“I didn’t realise it was as foggy as it was… but I thought best to make the running.”
As luck would have it, a horse called Visibility finished second-last in the race.
Poor commentator Simon Holt was the man tasked with trying to call the action.
And in the next race he could only guess at who was where, despite conditions appearing to have improved slightly.
There was a sarcastic cheer from the crowd as the TV cameras managed to pick up the runners for a bit in the mile race.
But they soon disappeared out of view again, the tracker on the bottom of the screen the only indication as to where a horse was.
