Why England star Adam Wharton’s brother is not allowed to fly to Germany to cheer him on at Euro 2024

But Wharton’s older sibling was NOT allowed to fly to Germany for a bizarre reason.

England fans are desperate to see Crystal Palace’s latest ace light up the pitch for Gareth Southgate at the Euros this month.

Wharton, 20, was a shock inclusion in the final 26-man Three Lions squad, having only joined Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January.

He made his England bow two weeks ago in the 3-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina.

But Wharton was left on the bench as Southgate’s side opened their Euros account by beating Serbia 1-0.

Even though he is likely to have a bit-part role at the tournament, it hasn’t stopped Wharton’s brother Scott from making the journey to Germany.

The 26-year-old is also a footballer and plays for Wharton’s former club Blackburn in the Championship.

However, Scott has DRIVEN the entire way to Germany as he is not allowed to fly by plane.

He is recovering from major knee surgery after suffering a setback against Sheffield Wednesday in April.

And with a nine-month recovery plan ahead of him, the older Wharton brother has been banned from flying by doctors.

Instead, he has driven the 600-odd mile journey from England’s north to the west of Germany.

And Scott hopes his efforts are rewarded by watching younger sibling Adam step off the bench for the Three Lions.

He told ITV Granada: “I can’t fly for two months and it’s been six weeks.

“So me and my partner, we’re driving to Hull to catch the ferry to Rotterdam and then drive into Dusseldorf, where we’re saying for the first game.

“So it’s more of a road trip, I’m looking forward to it!

“Honestly I feel just like a proud dad. The family is massively proud of him, of how far he’s come in such a short space of time.

“At the start of the season I don’t think anyone would have predicted what’s happened to him.

“So the fact that he’s coming on for England, playing with some of the best in the world is just incredible.”
