FOOTBALL broadcaster John Motson has died after an incredible life as Britain’s best-loved football commentator for half a century.
The soundtrack to some of the most famous moments in football, Motty was a household name for his excitable commentary and signature coat.

Now, fans and the footballing world are paying tribute to the voice of the sport after he died at the age of 77.
What football team does John Motson support?
Motty was a fan of Barnet and has been their No1 celebrity fan.
Despite being born in Salford, Motson began his journalism career in Barnet itself and watched them as a result.
He told the Radio Times: “I have a long connection with the club.
“I was a junior reporter at the local paper (the Barnet Press) that covered their matches.

“I’ve always lived around Hertfordshire and have looked for their results ever since.
“I go and watch them whenever I can”.

How long has he been a commentator?
After working as a reporter from 1963-67, Motson was hired for BBC Radio 2 the following year.
His first radio commentary was for a match between Everton and Derby in December 1969 – and three years later he was a regular voice on Match of the Day.
He became one of the most recognised voices in the game.
But after 50 years, he bowed out with Crystal Palace vs West Brom on the final day of the 2017/18 season.
And in at the Baftas 2018 he won an award for his legendary commentating.
