Eager to do well, Kalbouneh took the message “straight in lads” a little too literally.
As his side kicked off, team-mate Omar Al Osad immediately clipped a pass forward.
Despite being clear second favourite, Kalbouneh raised his boot to try and win the ball.
Tajikistan defender Mekhrubon Karimov won the ball first, before taking a boot in the face for his troubles.
Karimov writhed in agony, with Kalbouneh immediately being shown a red card.
The forward moaned to the referee, but can have few complaints in retrospect.
Remarkably, Jordan went on to win the match 2-0, despite being a man short for virtually the entire 90 minutes.
Ali Ahmad Azaizeh put them 1-0 up on seven minutes.

Sief Addeen Darwish then doubled their advantage on 25 minutes.
The match was both side’s group stage opener of the competition.
Kalbouneh will be suspended for his side’s matchday two clash with South Korea on Sunday.
The Koreans looked in ominous form in their opener, beating Oman 4-0.
