‘VAR is STILL a joke’ – Harry Kane denied ‘clear’ penalty leaving Tottenham fans fuming against Brentford

TOTTENHAM fans were left fuming at VAR, after they felt a decision went against them.

Spurs were playing Brentford in the Boxing Day lunchtime kick off, when Harry Kane was brought down in the box in the 51st minute.

The Bees were leading 1-0 – but the North London side felt they should have had a chance to equalise from the spot.

Ivan Perisic whipped the ball into the box from the left flank – with Kane desperate to meet it.

However, Brentford defender Ben Mee appeared to drag down his opponent in the box.

Kane and his team-mates all appealed wildly for the penalty, but referee David Coote wasn’t moved and waved play on.

Three minutes later, Ivan Toney rubbed salt into the wound by putting his side 2-0 up.

The incident left Spurs fans livid on social media.

One fan said on Twitter: “Nah blatant foul on Kane in the box. Should have got a penalty.”

Another wrote: “How wasn’t foul on Kane a penalty? Anywhere else on pitch-free kick 100%. Prime’s expert Ref can do one with ‘higher threshold’ argument. Mee hasn’t looked at ball once. Only aim is foul Kane&prevent getting to ball. Only argument is possibly it’s obstruction but forced contact.”

While a third fan shared: “Premier League denying a clear penalty to Kane for his first chance since the world cup. NBA would never let a narrative like that pass.”

Kane would have the last laugh – scoring a brilliant header in the 65th minute to get his side back in the game.

And Tottenham levelled things up in the 71st minute with a goal from Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
