But now Le Figaro are reporting he is “upset and hurt” by Didier Deschamps‘ decision not to name him as his new skipper.

Griezmann has linked up with the national team for their upcoming games against Netherlands and Ireland.

But he was left disappointed when Deschamps informed him that Kylian Mbappe would wear the armband when they host the Dutch on Friday.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward is expected to be installed as France’s new permanent captain.

ESPN are reporting that the France head coach announced the news to his squad on Monday evening.

Hugo Lloris relinquished the role when he retired from international football after the World Cup.

But Deschamps has opted to go with Mbappe, 24, as he looks ahead to Euro 2024.

The PSG star, who will become France‘s youngest ever captain, has already netted 36 goals in 66 games for his country.

When explaining his decision to hand the armband to Mbappe, Deschamps told the media that the main reason for his selection was “legitimacy” and that “the common interest will prevail”.

He went on to insist Mbappe has shown his leadership qualities since the World Cup.
