Update in police probe over death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson after his throat was slashed during game
POLICE have today issued an update into their probe over the death of tragic ice hockey start Adam Johnson.
The Nottingham Panthers star, 29, was killed when he collided with rival Matt Petgrave in a freak accident in October.
A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter the following month.
South Yorkshire Police today confirmed he has been re-bailed as their investigation continues.
A spokesperson said: “A man who was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson in Sheffield has been rebailed.
“Adam, aged 29, was seriously injured during a game between the Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers on October 28 last year.
“He was sadly later pronounced deceased in hospital. A post-mortem examination confirmed he died as a result of a neck injury.
“On November 14, a man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and later bailed. Today, he has been rebailed until April 25, 2024.”
Video clips show Petgrave’s leg being sent into the air after he was knocked off-balance moments before the horror.
Around 8,000 fans watched in horror as Johnson lay stricken on the ice at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena.
He received emergency treatment while being shielded by players before he was taken to hospital.
