JUSTIN GAETHJE admits he goes into his fights not thinking about living another day.

And he’ll continue that thought process ahead of his eagerly-anticipated showdown with former featherweight champion Max Holloway.

The fan favourites will collide early on Sunday morning on a stacked UFC 300 card in Las Vegas.

Gaethje will defend the BMF title he claimed in brutal fashion last July against long-time rival Dustin Poirier.

A title shot against lightweight champion Islam Makhachev could be in the offing should he emerge victorious.

But he’s refusing to think about even leaving the cage this weekend, let alone a potential championship fight

The 35-year-old – who is known as one of the most violent fighters in the history of MMA – said at the UFC 300 media day: “I’m a quarter-mile at a time kind of guy.

“I do not look too far ahead. I honestly have no clue what the future holds.

“I don’t usually plan on being alive the day after my fights, so hopefully I’m there on Sunday.”

Despite not thinking about what the future holds, Gaethje does have a timeline in mind for a third shot at lightweight gold.

He told MMA Junkie: “Ideally, they’re calling his [Charles] Oliveira – [Arman] Tsarukyan fight a title eliminator.

“So the winner of that fight fights [Makhachev] in June.

“Then I fight the winner of that in, preferably, Madison Square Garden in November.

“We’ll see if Oliveira s**ts the bed again.

“I think if Tsarukyan wins he takes it because they are calling this a title eliminator.

“So whoever wins is going to have to fight that fight.”
