Top jockey Rob Hornby slapped with seven-day ban and set to miss all of Royal Ascot
TOP jockey Rob Hornby is set to miss the whole of Royal Ascot after being banned for not weighing himself.
The multiple Group 1-winning rider finished third on Hughie Morrison’s Surrey Belle at Nottingham yesterday but didn’t weigh in afterwards.

The clerk of the course took objection to the result and Surrey Belle was disqualified and Hornby hit with a seven-day ban and loss of riding fee – around £140.
He can appeal but if he chooses not to then he will miss the whole of Royal Ascot, which starts on Tuesday, June 18.
Jockeys must weigh in after a race to make sure they weigh roughly the same as when they weigh out before a race.
The stewards’ report read: “The Clerk of the Scales objected to SURREY BELLE, placed third, ridden by Rob Hornby on the grounds of the rider failing to weigh in.
“SURREY BELLE was disqualified and the placings revised as follows: First- EXPRESSIONLESS, Second- MARBUZET, Third- MERRIJIG and Fourth- LIBERATED LAD.
“After being interviewed, the rider was suspended for seven days and was not entitled to a riding fee.”
The Class 5 1m6f contest was won by Dylan Cunha’s Expressionless at 17-2.
Surrey Belle had been sent off 9-2 joint-favourite and led two furlongs out before being headed.
Marbuzet finished a length ahead of Surrey Belle but the four-year-old filly’s disqualification meant 6-1 Merrijig, who finished a half-length behind Surrey Belle, was promoted to third.
Hornby has enjoyed successful partnerships with trainers Andrew Balding and Ralph Beckett.
The jockey teamed up with the latter to win the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud with Juddmonte-owned Westover last July, where victory was worth over £200,000.
While Hornby also previously won the July Cup for Balding on Alcohol Free in July 2022.
