But despite turning 40 years old in September, he continues to be a key player for the Blues.

Silva played a starring role last night as Chelsea booked their place in the Carabao Cup final with a 6-1 thrashing of Middlesbrough.

The Brazilian has already won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup during his four years at Stamford Bridge.

But speaking after the Carabao semi-final victory, Silva hinted that next month’s showpiece event at Wembley could be his last chance to win silverware with Chelsea.

The centre-back said: “I’m happier because of the team’s performance and now with another final at Wembley.

“If I’m not mistaken, the three times I went there, I lost all three. So I think it’s time to win, right?

“[Fans singing my name] it’s a source of great pride. In such a short time I managed to conquer them in such a passionate way.

“It was very, very fast and I am happy every time I play here. It’s a different and special emotion.

“And I know with that each game that ends I have the feeling that it’s ending, so that makes me a little sad.

“But I’m happy with the performance on the field, which is the most important.”

Silva joined Chelsea on a free transfer from PSG in 2020 and was written off by pundits as past his prime.

But Silva went on to lead the Blues to their second European triumph, and the following season lifted the Club World Cup under Thomas Tuchel.

During his time at Chelsea, Silva has played 141 times while scoring seven goals.

He has also won 113 caps for Brazil, netting seven times for his country.

But despite being yet to retire from international duty, Silva has not been called up since Brazil’s World Cup exit in 2022.
