Tearful Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 41, retires from football and teases next job as AC Milan legend says emotional goodbye
ZLATAN Ibrahimovic has retired from football with immediate effect.
The Sweden legend, 41, announced he was hanging up his boots following AC Milan’s Serie A match against Verona.

Ibrahimovic was on the sidelines after a calf injury suffered in April ended his campaign.
After the final whistle, the former Man Utd star was seen on the San Siro pitch clapping as the home faithful gave him a standing ovation.
Looking suave in a black shirt, Zlatan was visibly moved by the reception he received and choked back tears.
Emotional supporters were spotted crying in the stands, as their hero said goodbye.
AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali was also unable to control his emotions, as he too was spotted wiping a tear away from his eye.
Beforehand, Ibrahimovic was handed an award by club legend Paolo Maldini as he delivered a speech.
He said: “So many memories and emotions inside this stadium.
“The first time I arrived you gave me happiness, the second time, you gave me love.
“I want to thank my family and those close to me for their patience. I want to thank my second family.
“The players, the coach and his staff for the responsibility they gave me.
“I want to thank the directors for the opportunity they gave me.
“Last but not least, from my heart, I want to thank you, fans.
“You welcomed me with open arms and I will be a Milanista my entire life.
“It’s time to say goodbye to football, but not to you.
“It’s too difficult, there are too many emotions. I’ll see you around if you are lucky. Forza Milan and goodbye.”
Subtly, Zlatan may have hinted he will be returning as a fan, or coach, or in the board room in the future.
Zlatan returned to AC Milan in 2020 for a second spell with the club.
In his second season, he won the Serie A title – adding to the championship he won in 2010-11 first time round.
Overall, he scored 93 goals in 163 appearances for the Rossonneri.
But, it was the impression he left on football, in general, that will always resonate with fans.
Blessed with an arrogance that was backed up by his brilliance, Zlatan scored 511 club goals while playing for illustrious clubs including Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter, PSG, Man Utd, LA Galaxy, as well as those spells at AC Milan.
For Sweden he scored 62 times in 122 games, and is their all-time top scorer.

He never did manage to win the Ballon d’Or – his highest finish was fourth place in 2013.
Last month it appeared he would continue his football career with Monza, who had reportedly offered him a deal to play next season.
However, Zlatan has now decided it is the right time to walk away from football for good.
