‘Steady on’ says BBC commentator after pundit’s slip of the tongue live on air during England cricket coverage

A BBC commentator was left stunned after a pundit’s slip of the tongue during England’s third ODI against Australia.

England won the match by 46 runs thanks to the DLS method as rain stopped play during the hosts’ innings.

But some of the excitement came from the Test Match Special coverage on the BBC.

Former England bowler Alex Hartley, 31, was on commentary with Geoff Lemon.

She was discussing the style of play and aggression that England can use after hitting the 150 mark.

However, she had an unfortunate slip of the tongue when trying to explain.

She said: “Getting used to the momentum of the game.

“You can’t just go crash wang, wang? Ballop.”

To which co-commentator Lemon was left stunned.

He jokingly replied: “Steady on, keep calm everybody.

“Never before have I been so happy to see an over start.

“I know you want meant.”

Hartley played in 28 ODIs for England during her playing career and took 39 wickets.

Australia batted first in the match at the Riverside Ground in Durham and hit 304 runs in 50 overs.

Alex Carey was the pick of their batters with 77 not out off of 65 balls.

England, however, were able to respond as stand-in captain Harry Brook smashed 110 not out off of 94 balls.

His partnership with Will Jacks, 84 off 82 balls, saw England close the gap and eventually earn the victory.

The win takes the series to 2-1 in Australia’s favour ahead of the final two matches of the five game series.
