Snooker star apologises to opponent after ‘fluke of the season’ sees him win decider in stunning fashion

SNOOKER star Dominic Dale apologised to his opponent Jamie Jones after winning with the “fluke of the season” at the Scottish Open.

The Welshman stunningly won the deciding match on Wednesday night in Edinburgh.

Dale, 51, was leading the way until Jones, 35, fought back twice from two games down -forcing the pair into a heated final frame.

On the match ball, Dale did not have an easy shot and seemed to have curved his shot.

The cue ball then bounced off the cushion into the last red which coasted past the middle and went into the top pocket.

Immediately after his terrific shot, he was heard muttering “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry” to Jones.

Winning the decider match means Dale has sailed through to the last 32 of the competition where he will face Jimmy White.

And fans relished the rare moment on social media.

As one argued: “It was on a match ball so this is definitely a contender for a fluke of the season for me.”

While another agreed: “Cracking fluke. Got to sing I should be so lucky, lucky lucky lucky…”

While a third put: “If anyone deserves a flamboyant fluke such as that, it’s Dom.”

Dale whose nicknamed The Spaceman turned professional back in 1992.

He has won two ranking tournaments in his lengthy career – the Grand Prix in 1997 and the 2007 Shanghai Masters.

The snooker star is currently ranked 54th in the world and is set to face White at the Meadowbank Sports Centre on Thursday.

If he wins his next match he will face either Andrew Higginson or Zhou Yuelong.
