Sven Botman got his name on the scoresheet before the break but things got much worse for the blunt Blades after the restart.
Callum Wilson made it four and then Anthony Gordon curled home a fifth as the floodgates opened.
Midfielder Elliot Anderson then made it six before Bruno Guimaraes became the seventh different player to get his name on the scoresheet.
But the rout was not over, and Alexander Isak made it eight in the dying stages to condemn the Blades to their worst-ever home defeat.
And Newcastle also became the first side in Premier League history to have eight different scores in a game.
