They looked well on course to end their miserable record against the Spanish side when Marcel Sabitzer’s brace put them 2-0 up last Thursday at Old Trafford.
But late own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire threw this quarter-final tie wide open ahead of the return leg at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

And that home ground has been a fortress for six-time winners Sevilla in the Europa League, with the LaLiga side winning 23 of their last 26 home matches in the competition.
Jose Luis Mendilibar is the seventh manager to manage Sevilla in the Europa League and five of the previous six have won their first home game in the competition.
However, United can take hope from their own impressive Europa League away record.
They have lost just one of their last 12 away matches, a 3-2 defeat at Roma in May 2021, with seven wins and four draws.
Whoever goes through will face either Italian giants Juventus or Portuguese outfit Sporting in a mouth-watering semi-final.
What is their form like?
To say Sevilla are having a topsy-turvy season would be an understatement – they have won nine, drawn eight and lost 12 in LaLiga.

A crucial 2-0 away win at Valencia helped them edge further away from the relegation zone and extend their unbeaten run to four.
Crucially, though, most of their recent damages losses have come away from home.
United, meanwhile, returned to winning ways at Nottingham Forest on Sunday and are unbeaten in four since the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle on April 2.
In fact, that is their only loss since the 7-0 hammering at Liverpool – in which time they have won six and drawn two.

What is the team news and any injuries to worry about?
Argentinan right-back Gonzalo Montiel is suspended for Sevilla after receiving three yellow cards in the Europa League this term.
Left-back Alex Telles will be available despite the fact he is currently on loan from United.
Ten Hag will be without star man Bruno Fernandes as he has also picked up three bookings, the third a very harsh one for handball last week.
The Red Devils have been handed a major boost as top scorer Marcus Rashford returned to training this week and has travelled to Sevilla.
Sabitzer is also a doubt after he was pulled out of the starting XI for Sunday’s Nottingham Forest game due to an injury in the warm-up.
Ten Hag will also be without long-term absentees Alejandro Garnacho, Donny van de Beek, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane – the latter pair both getting injured in the first leg at Old Trafford.
Luke Shaw could recover from a hamstring strain in time, though.
Who will be the star men?
Sevilla’s main man is the experienced operator Ivan Rakitic in the middle of the park.
But it was Youssef En-Nesyri and Jesus Navas that caused problems off the bench for the two goals in Manchester.
With no Fernandes and possibly no Sabitzer, all eyes will be on Casemiro to hold the fort together in midfield – and he could be boosted by having Christian Eriksen alongside him.
Further forward, Antony will be desperate to continue on from his goal at Forest and step up when his team need him.

And on David de Gea’s form: “Stopping goals – that is the main job for a goalkeeper. Everyone has their own particular style.
“Nowadays, in possession, it has become more and more important at top levels. But at the end of the day it is about stopping goals; shots; crosses; one-on-ones. I think David is a complete goalkeeper.”
