SCOTLAND’s Rugby World Cup dreams were crushed by Ireland on Saturday.

But that didn’t deter one Scots fan who seemed to be having the time of his life!

An opening Irish try from James Lowe set the tone in Paris as the world’s top ranked team raced into a commanding lead that had the tie all but over by half-time.

Ireland would go on to win 36-14 to progress from Pool B alongside South Africa with Scotland’s campaign ending at the first hurdle.

It was a campaign that promised much but ultimately didn’t deliver for Gregor Townsend’s men who faced an uphill battle to get out of the ‘group of death’ following their opening loss to South Africa.

But while it was a night of disappointment on Saturday, one Scotland fan seemed to be having the time of his life!

Undeterred by his nation’s elimination from the World Cup, the happy chap stopped to chat with talkSPORT outside the stadium with hilarious results.

Admitting that he’d been enjoying a few refreshments over the course of the tournament, the happy Scot was full of cheer despite what he’d just watched.

He told the radio reporter: “Thing is about tonight and we’re not mucking about here, we’ve given it absolutely laldy in there tonight – no mucking about!

“We’ve given it our best shot, we came up short. That’s what it’s about, we came up short, over committing the midfield. Too many spaces round the corners.

“But we over committed. See if we hadn’t taken the points early on, we’d have chased that scoreboard down and they wouldn’t have ran away with it. There’s no way they’d have ran away with it. No way.

“Thank you, thank you for talking to me.”

At that point, he thinks his interview is over and starts to leave but he’s pulled back in when asked what he thinks about Ireland.

He says: “Ireland? They’re a handy team! Ireland a handy team alright. They know how to flick it about. Any day of the week. Firing the pill (the ball), firing the pill. And they’ll punish you.

“I love Ireland, they’re a great team to watch. It’s a blizzard when they’re out there. It’s a blizzard!”

Once again, the man motions to depart but his yet again reeled back in after being asked if there’s a message he’d like to send to World Rugby, the sport’s governing body.

And his hilarious answer isn’t perhaps what you might expect as he instead talks about just how much he’s enjoyed his World Cup experience!

The gleeful fan excitedly says: “I want to say World Rugby. I’ve been on the lash for five weeks like, you know?

“I started with a wee golf tournament down in Vilamoura and that was magic. And then I jumped over to Marseille and I couldn’t believe it when I go there because they were filling us with the old bevvy!

“And we just went on the lash for four weeks, went up through the Chablis, down the wine cellars, had a brilliant time, a brilliant time.”

He then adds: “Win lose or draw, I’m getting p****d. Win lose or draw, I’m getting blootered, big yin!”

“We don’t care if we win lose or draw, what the hell do we care?

“We only know there’s going to be a show and the bonny Scotland will be there!”

The clip has gone viral on social media, with more than 200,000 people watching it on X.

And fans were absolutely loving the man’s upbeat nature.

One said: “Haha I want what he’s on!”

A second added: “Just a happy guy on his holidays!”

A third commented: “World needs more characters like this.”

A fourth described the man as “my spirit animal right there.”

Another said: “The winner of the internet over the weekend.”

While another joked: “This man is everything I want to be.”

While another fan said: “Ye canny beat being Scottish. Sums us up to a tee this haha.”

Another described it as “the best rugby interview ever.”

While a fan quipped: “That’s the spirit. Certainly a good few spirits”.

Another fan reckoned that it’s “right up there with Mel Gibson’s “freedom” speech.”
