But unlike the other three men in the match-up, Cantlay was not wearing a cap.

Players do sometimes opt not to do so as they do not wear their sponsors attire for the Ryder Cup.

Instead, they are given team outfits to wear.

However, it was claimed on Saturday morning that the USA dressing room was fractured.

And the alleged reason for that was said to be that Cantlay feels the players should be getting paid to play in the event.

Fans in Rome caught wind of the reports and responded in a hilarious manner.

As the players approached the supporters at the 10th hole, they all waved their hats at Cantlay.

And they could be heard singing: “Caps off for your bank account.”

The hilarious gesture received a host of positive responses on social media.

One person said: “The lads having fun! Cantlay is a goober!”

Another added: “Cantlay deserves every bit of this lol.”

A third replied: “I don’t care if it’s true or not, that’s hysterical.”

While a fourth responded: “Best video of all time.”

CANTLAY HAS LAST LAUGH

However, Cantlay was to have the last laugh.

A sublime putt on the 18th secured Team USA the final point of the day – closing the score to 10.5 to Europe, 5.5 to USA.

His team-mates then hilariously reacted by waving their own caps.

It perhaps signalled that the mood in Team USA is not as bad as claimed.
