Mane suffered an injury to his right fibula in Bayern Munich’s penultimate game before the break.

Senegal football federation (FSF) board member Abdoulaye Sow announced: “We will have to rely on playing the first games without Sadio and win without Sadio.

“No-one would have wanted it, but that’s what’s happened to us.”

The former Prem forward is Senegal’s star player and will be a big miss for the African side in Qatar.

He said: “We are monitoring the situation and we sent a doctor from the federation.

“On Thursday, Sadio spent the whole day in Munich before travelling to Austria for further tests. The good news is that he does not need an operation.

“It is important to continue to monitor his injury and hope that in two or three weeks there is a change. We will give everything to have Sadio back.”
