Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney say Wrexham interest in Gareth Bale transfer is REAL and plot talks with ex-Man Utd star

WREXHAM owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney insist they are serious about signing Gareth Bale.

TV star McElhenney first floated the idea after the Wales legend congratulated Wrexham on promotion to the EFL.

Reynolds then continued the charm offensive by posting a mock-up of the forward in a Wrexham shirt – with the 1984 song “We Belong” by Pat Benatar playing in the background.

And although Bale, 33, agreed to McElhenney’s offer to play a round of golf, he hinted he is unlikely to come out of retirement.

But that has not deterred the Hollywood pair, who are planning for life in League Two after winning the National League.

McElhenney told S4C: “I think there’s seriousness from our side, but I don’t know that there’s seriousness from his. I think he’s happy.”

Reynolds added: “I’m also weirdly happy for him to do exactly what he wants to do with his life.

“He’s given up so much for a sport that he loves. It’s fun, though. I like that we can kind of do some stuff that’s a little outside the box of convention when it comes to goofing around.”

“I didn’t think Ben Foster would be coming over and he did.”

Foster proved a big success after penning a deal until the end of the season in March, and now Reynolds and McElhenney wanted to extend his stay.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper, 40, saved a last-gasp penalty to help Wrexham beat Notts County in their crucial title clash last month.

Speaking of transfer strategy, McElhenney said: “We never make a short-term decision. Any player that we sign, we sign from at least a three year deal – expect for one.”

Reynolds quickly joked: “I think his name is Foster, young kid.

Before Mcelhenney added: “He’s a real fresh faced, young lad.

“He’s the guy we are going to work on. Other than that, I think we have a really strong side and if Phil [Parkinson] says we need someone else, then we will do our best to go out and get them.”
