RYAN REYNOLDS and Rob McElhenney have made a shock admission about Wrexham’s future had the club not been promoted last season.

The Welsh outfit stormed to National League title glory in their second season under the Hollywood duo’s leadership.

Reynolds and McElhenney bankrolled a major spending spree on transfers and infrastructure to turn Wrexham into a competitive force.

And they are now impressing in League Two, occupying seventh place after three wins and three draws in their opening seven matches.

However, things could have turned out differently this season had Wrexham not been promoted.

The money secured by reaching the EFL system dramatically increases.

And Reynolds and McElhenney admitted on the latest series of Welcome to Wrexham, set before their promotion, that they will be “f****d’ financially if they don’t go up.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star McElhenney said: “From a financial perspective, if we do not get promoted this year, we are f****d.”

He continued: “We’re heavily invested in building this club, the stadium itself, and if we don’t get promoted this year, the club is completely, totally and wholly unsustainable.

“So it’s really ratcheted up the pressure, not just for us but for the players on the field, the people in the community.

“This year we have to get promoted.”

McElhenney noted: “If our goal from the very beginning was not just to win, not just to help bring some hope and optimism to the town, but to build a sustainable business, something that can continue long after we’ve gone.
