Ryan Moore raves about 25-1 outsider he thinks can win ‘world’s greatest race’ for Aidan O’Brien

AIDAN O’BRIEN has let slip that Ryan Moore is raving about his 25-1 superstar quietly fancied to win the ‘world’s greatest race’.

Moore was a valiant fifth in last weekend’s Arc on St Leger hero Continuous.

But it was a winner earlier in the day who had arguably the jockey uncharacteristically excited.

Moore was quite simply untouchable on the brilliant Opera Singer as she pulverised rivals in the Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp.

Sent off 17-10 favourite, she ate up the turf like it was nothing in the final furlong of the mile race for fillies.

Victory was worth a shade over £200,000 for legendary owners Tabor, Smith, Magnier and Westerberg.

It was also a pointer to what the future could hold for this daughter of US Triple Crown winner Justify.

Opera Singer got stronger and stronger as the race went on, winning by five lengths – suggesting a step up in trip will be no problem.

She is now 6-1 favourite for the 1000 Guineas next May and 8-1 fav for the Oaks in June.

Speaking after the win, O’Brien – who was recently given orders to sell a load of top horses – said Moore was loving her attitude… and what lies in store 12 months from now.

He said: “We’ve been excited with her. Ryan said she was very straightforward.

“She really appreciated the step up to a mile like we thought she would.

“I thought she was very strong all the way to the line and it was an impressive performance.

“Being on nicer ground helped her put in that performance.

“She’s by Justify and they get better with age. As she steps up in trip she’s something to look forward to next year.

“We’ve been excited with her the whole time, she’s a beautiful filly and we’ve always loved her from the first day she ran.

“We thought when she stepped up to the mile at the Curragh the last day she would change and grow another leg and that’s what she did – she was very impressive the last day.

“She’s obviously a filly that would have no problem starting off at a mile in a Classic and you would imagine she would have no problem going up to a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half.

“Ryan was raving about her there coming in – he said to look forward to this day next year (in the Arc).”

You can back Opera Singer for the French feature – won by the awesome Ace Impact – at 25-1 now.

It could look a shrewd punt in a year’s time.
