Royal Ascot announce key changes to order of running amid England vs Denmark Euro 2024 fixture clash

ROYAL ASCOT bosses have announced several changes to this year’s meeting – amid a fixture clash with England’s Euro 2024 game against Denmark.

Several races at the world’s most prestigious Flat festival will be run at different times.

Gareth Southgate’s men take on Denmark in their Group C game at 5pm UK time in Frankfurt on Thursday, June 20.

It means the final three races that day – Britannia, Hampton Court and Buckingham Palace – will be up against the biggest sporting event of the day.

But the feature Gold Cup will be run at 4.25pm, more than half an hour before kick-off.

With games running right through the week – and after considering jockey and trainer feedback – Ascot confirmed changes to the order of running.

On the second day, Wednesday, June 19, the Queen’s Vase will now be the second race on the card.

The Kensington Palace Stakes will become the sixth of seven contests on the day.

While the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, won last year by 10-1 Rogue Millennium, will now be run on the round course rather than the straight.

The Kensington Palaxe, a 0-105 handicap for fillies and mares, will be run on the straight instead of the round.

On the fourth day, The Coronation Stakes will be the third race on the card, with The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes the fourth race.

On the fifth day, The Hardwicke Stakes will now be the second race on the card and The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes the third race, with The Jersey Stakes moved to fourth.

King Charles and Queen Camilla attended all five day of the meeting last year.

And, after making it to Epsom to see their horse Treasure run in the Oaks last Friday, they are expected to make it to the Royal showpiece again this year.

This year’s Ascot will also see record prize money of more than £10million – with no race run for less than £110,000.
