Roy Keane tells Jadon Sancho how to save Man Utd career and says ‘I’d be ashamed of my life’ if it happened to him

ROY KEANE savagely claimed he’d be “embarrassed” and “ashamed” if he had received the criticism Erik ten Hag has levelled at Jadon Sancho.

The Manchester United forward, 23, has been banished from the first team after he responded to Ten Hag’s comments about his training performances with a social media post in which he said he was being used as a “scapegoat”.

Ten Hag had said: “Jadon, on his performance in training, was not selected. 

“You have to reach a level at Manchester United every day and we can make choices in the front line. So for this game he was not selected.”

It now remains unclear whether he will be re-integrated into the squad or Man Utd will choose to sell him.

But while Keane feels those types of comments would hit home, he also insists Sancho should use them as fuel to bounce back.

Speaking on The Overlap’s show Stick to Football, he said: “I don’t think he is training right. I have no issue with his personality.

“I am not bothered about that [a player being withdrawn], the one thing we don’t really forgive a player for… we have all worked with players who have come in, they can be grumpy or whatever, but when they are training, they are training properly.

“My annoyance with Sancho would be if he is not training properly. Whatever it is about his personality, we’re all different.”

He went on to add: “I’d be embarrassed, I’d be ashamed of my life if the manager ever came up to me, or even spoke through the media because you get over that stuff.

“People say you can’t say stuff about the players through the media, yes you can, you can send messages out to people.”

Keane also feels Sancho’s Man Utd future remains up in the air and that it could go either way.

He said: “If you have got questions marks over this player, he is not training properly and he does turn around and show some sort of humility and says maybe I got it wrong, you can move on very quickly.

“We’ve been in dressing rooms where players have come in and said: ‘Sorry lads I have made a mistake’, it is forgotten about very quickly.

“Football dressing rooms are a strange dynamic, if a player shows they care and they are human, it’s fine. We move on quickly.”

Ten Hag refused to comment on Sancho’s situation following Man Utd’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund man has contributed just 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances for the Red Devils.

He came off the bench in each of Man Utd’s opening three Premier League games of the season.

After being left out of the squad for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, his social media post led to him being ousted from the squad.

And he has not played a single minute since the spat unfolded at the beginning of September.
