In a bid to get himself fit for his next club, the 37-year-old has joined
the Shots for pre-season.

Begovic was pictured in the club’s blue kit practising his diving and shot-stopping in the club’s second training session of the year before the 2024/25 season.

The 63-cap Bosnia and Herzegovina goalkeeper’s presence with the non-league club likely comes down to his relationship with the club’s goalkeeping coach David Smalley.

He is understood to be a friend of Begovic and the lead goalkeeper coach at Begovic’s goalkeeper academy.

Smalley joined Aldershot last summer.

Smalley, who holds a Uefa A grade licence, previously had stints at Hampton and Richmond Borough, Chelsea Women and within Chelsea’s academy.

Begovic has played more than 250 Premier League matches for clubs including Chelsea, Stoke and Bournemouth.

Arguably his most well-known stint came at Stoke, where he played 160 games and sensationally scored once.

He has two trophies to his name in English football.

The first was the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2016/17, while the second was the 2008 FA Cup with Portsmouth, though he did not feature in the final and was not named as a sub.

Aldershot finished 8th in the National League last year.

The club, who were founded in 1992 as a phoenix club of Aldershot, last played the football league in 2013.
