Things don’t get any easier for Manchester United as they travel to Porto for Thursday’s Europa League encounter at the Estadio do Dragao.

The Red Devils will still be licking their wounds after Sunday’s chastening 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford.

United were abject in all departments as Ange Postecoglou’s side – without captain Son Heung-min – blitzed and exposed plenty of vulnerabilities in Erik ten Hag’s side.

It rounded off a pretty dreadful week for Manchester United, who drew with both Crystal Palace and FC Twente, leaving them with just three wins in all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.

The pressure is ramping up on Erik ten Hag, who is now odds-on favourite at 4/6 to be the first Premier League manager relieved of his duties.

So three points in Portugal is essential for the Dutchman, who will more or less HAVE to field his strongest XI on Thursday.

But clinching a positive result will be easier said than done considering United have conceded 14 goals in their last four away European matches and won only once.

They are, however, unbeaten in their last 12 major European matches against Portuguese clubs.

As for hosts Porto, they started their Europa League conquest with a 3-2 defeat at Bodo/Glimt but otherwise it’s been pretty good for Vitor Bruno’s side.

They’ve won seven of their nine games this term, including a 4-0 win at the weekend over Arouca and a Super Cup final victory against arch-rivals Sporting Lisbon.
