The major hiccup came an hour into the £100m opening ceremony.

Giant screens are beaming the events further up the river to the crowds where cheers regularly rise up into the evening air.

However, the weather took a turn for the worse during the celebrations.

Spectators looked glum as they adorned transparent water-proof macs while sitting to watch the extravaganza on the river.

And matters were made worse when a big screen blacked out after rainwater seemingly caused the glitch.
