Nottingham Forest next manager odds: Steven Gerrard price slashed with Steve Cooper on the brink

STEVEN GERRARD is the new favourite to be the next Nottingham Forest boss with Steve Cooper’s future seemingly hanging by a thread.

That’s the view of bookmakers Sky Bet, who have cut the England legend into 7/4 from 6/1 last week.

Cooper, 43, is on the brink after yet another Premier League defeat at the weekend – this time at home to Manchester United.

The result extended the club’s winless run to TEN matches, and leaves them just inside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Wins for Wolves, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace alongside West Ham’s draw with leaders Arsenal have heaped more pressure on Cooper with a gap now growing between the bottom four and the five teams trying to pull away.

Cooper is the current 4/7 favourite with Sky Bet to be the next Premier League manager to leave his role.

Forest have picked up just one point in their last six games, with no side scoring less than them so far this season and only Bournemouth conceding more.

Forest are now second-favourites to be relegated at 1/4, and their upcoming fixtures are perhaps the toughest of any of their rivals.

Their final nine fixtures include Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Notoriously trigger-happy Evangelos Marinakis might have given Cooper his full support recently, but he’s already on his fourth manager of the campaign at Olympiacos, and clearly isn’t afraid to chop and change.

But who would Nottingham Forest appoint?

Steven Gerrard is still plotting his route back into management following his Aston Villa sacking and is available to start right away.

He’s been linked with several posts since his Villa exit, though this one could give him the Premier League role he craves.

He leads the way as the new 7/4 favourite.

Jorge Sampaoli was sacked from Sevilla last month after a disappointing La Liga campaign that sees them hover above the relegation zone.

He’s reportedly knocked back an approach from Forest but is still currently in the mix at 8/1 with Sky Bet.

That’s just behind Patrick Vieira (4/1) and Ralph Hasenhuttl (6/1), with the former being tipped by many to succeed Cooper.

Vieira, who was sacked by Crystal Palace in March, is believed to have many admirers at the City Ground.

Rafa Benitez and Jesse Marsch were both strongly linked with the Leicester City job before talks broke down and are 10/1 and 12/1, respectively.

While Nuno Espirito Santo, Brendan Rodgers and Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou are all next at 16/1.
