Nico de Boinville back riding out barely two weeks after breaking collarbone as he races to return for Jonbon ride

NICO DE BOINVILLE could make a stunning return in the coming days – barely two weeks after breaking his collarbone.

The top jockey wants to get back in time to ride Jonbon in the big Clarence House Chase clash with El Fabiolo next Saturday.

Nicky Henderson revealed De Boinville, 34, was back riding out at Seven Barrows yesterday morning.

When last sighted in public at Doncaster on December 29, the rider had his arm in a sling after taking a heavy fall from Therapist.

The average adult will take six to 12 weeks to recover from a broken collarbone – De Boinville is trying to make it back within three weeks.

However, he still needs to pass BHA doctors before he is cleared to return at Ascot, with James Bowen ready to deputise if needed.

Henderson said: “Nico is doing great, he rode out three lots this morning and he says he is fine, which is pretty amazing.

“Obviously the doctors are the ones who will have the final say, but he didn’t appear to have any trouble riding work.

“James has done a great job when Nico hasn’t been around and he would step into the breach if needed.”

But the threat of freezing weather next week is giving Hendo cause for concern, with Ascot having already put frost covers down.

He continued: “Jonbon’s doing well, I’m very pleased with him. We could really do with getting the racing on next weekend.

“It looks pretty bleak, though, we’d probably all be better off going to Barbados for a fortnight!”
