Next Wolves manager – latest odds: Lopetegui REJECTS approach as bookies chalk up new Molineux favourite

JULEN LOPETEGUI has TURNED DOWN the opportunity to manage Wolves.

Lopetegui was sacked by Sevilla last week but has rejected the chance to jump straight back into the dugout with the Molineux side, leaving Sky Bet with no option but to shake up their next manager market.

Now Pedro Martins – who was among the early frontrunners before a drift to 20/1 earlier this week – is the 13/8 short price favourite to replace Bruno Lage.

That drift was in part due to the club’s immediate decision to make Lopetegui their ‘preferred candidate’.

Martins’ appointment, should it happen, would keep the run of Portuguese managers going after Lage and Nuno Espirito Santo before him.

Martins was most recently in charge of Olympiacos before he was replaced in the summer by Carlos Corberan – who has been sacked since.

Fellow Portuguese boss Ruben Amorim was seen as the ideal replacement for Lage initially and was installed as the early favourite.

He sits on the same price as Lopetegui to take the job now in joint-second favourite spot at 7/2.

Amorim took Sporting on a 32-game unbeaten run during the 2020/21 campaign when guiding them to Primeira Liga glory.

That title win was their first for 19 YEARS and was the first title not won by Benfica or Porto during that time.

They have started strongly in the Champions League this campaign too with two wins from three and top the group that involves Tottenham.

There is a reported £20million compensation fee on his head.

Andre Villas-Boas has been out of work since his sacking from Marseille in 2021 after a public outburst at the club’s recruitment policy and is 8/1.

Bo Svensson is the same odds, with Brendan Rodgers, Carlos Carvalhal and Sean Dyche all behind them at 14/1.
