NEWCASTLE could be forced to sell Joelinton this summer over a wage dispute.

Joelinton has 18 months to run on his deal but wants a bumper raise to become one of the club’s top earners.

But the Samba star and Newcastle are currently at a stand-off.

And the Magpies may look to cash in this summer rather than risk letting him leave for nothing the following year.

Joelinton signed a six-year deal after joining from Hoffenheim in 2019.

After a sticky start up front, he has been reborn under Mags boss Eddie Howe from striker flop to indispensable midfield warrior.

A huge fan favourite, he became a Brazil international in June and Howe is desperate to keep one of his most trusted players.

When banned and fined for drink driving last January the judge was shown documents that revealed Joelinton’s basic weekly wage was £40,000.

Newcastle hope a compromise will be reached after offering him vastly improved terms.

But they are drawing up a shortlist of potential midfield replacements given Brazilian compatriot Bruno Guimaraes’ future is also up in the air with the Geordies having to sell to satisfy Financial Fair Play rules.

Another Brazilian, Atalanta’s Ederson, has been scouted this month.

That was after they cooled interest in a loan for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.
