Incredibly, the little known Gillespie, 30, hasn’t played for the Toon in two-and-a-half years – last appearing in a penalty shoot-out win over Newport County in the same competition.

But despite being behind the likes of Pope, Dubravka and Karl Darlow for the three years he’s been at the club, Gillespie has had all the trappings of a first team star.

He enjoys glam Dubai holidays, has scored a stunning Wag, and has a six-pack that would rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Last year he was even a guest at Billi Mucklow and pal Andy Carroll’s showbiz wedding.

Fame and fortune

According to spotrac, Gillespie features quite low on Newcastle’s payroll.

He is believed earn a weekly salary of £11,500-per-week, which is around £600,000-per-annum.

But playing for his boyhood club has always been the draw for Gillespie, and a core of local players is important to boss Eddie Howe too.

“Paul Dummett, Mark Gillespie and Dan Burn are from the local area, it’s great to see,” Howe said in his first month in charge.

After getting released from St James’ Park when he was 16, it was the ultimate redemption.

Earning a very decent wage he is able to live a good life.

Fancy holidays

Gillespie’s Instagram shows more holidays than a Thomas Cook brochure.

He loves to travel – and gets away as often as he can.

Last summer, he enjoyed break away with his gorgeous Wag, Sally Rea to Ibiza.

A few months before that he travelled to Dubai with fellow Geordie Dummett.

Romantic trips with Rea to Paris and New York were enjoyed before that.

Gillespie seems to be a fan of Conor McGregor – once dressing up like the UFC star for a night out on the town.

Despite enjoying time out with the boys, it’s his beloved he cherishes on social media.

The missus

Gillespie’s missus Sally first appeared on his Instagram timeline in 2015, so it appears they’ve been dating for eight years.

She likes to retain her privacy, and keeps her social media set for friends and family only.

But, she’s not content with just being a footballer’s Wag.

With her sense of style and an eye for home decor, Sally is an interior designer.

The business has an Instagram account that shows off some of her work and has nearly 8,000 followers.

Proud parents

Back in 2020, Gillespie revealed his missus was expecting their first child.

He shared a proud photo of the baby mama holding up a scan to celebrate the moment.

The goalie captioned the snap: ‘Exciting times ahead @srearea  In December our world will change forever …..or’

Some five months later, they welcomed a girl into their lives they called Ruby.

He happily called her his ‘Mini me’ at her first birthday party in an adorable family snap.
