My dad’s a former Chelsea star turned pundit – but I’m making my way as champion of another sport

PAT NEVIN is a former Chelsea and Everton star-turned-BBC pundit.

But his daughter excels in a different sport and works as a doctor.

Lucy was a Scottish badminton champion in her youth and now balances her time on the court with helping patients in the NHS.

She qualified as a doctor the year before the pandemic began in 2020.

Her father has previously spoken about how proud he is of her fighting the virus on the frontline.

Nevin, 60, was signed by Chelsea for £95,000 in 1984 and helped them win promotion to the First Division soon after.

The winger was an instant hit with supporters and was twice voted the club’s player of the year.

He then left Stamford Bridge for Everton in 1998 after the Blues were relegated from the top-flight.

Nevin spent five seasons at Goodison Park before featuring for Tranmere, Kilmarnock and Motherwell prior to his retirement in 2000.

But he has not slowed down since hanging up his boots, writing books, launching a career as a TV and radio pundit with the BBC and even showing his love for music as a DJ.

Until the beginning of this season, Nevin also worked with Chelsea as part of their in-house media team, writing articles for the club’s website and commentating on matches.

But he was surprisingly axed without an explanation to the anger of fans.

Nevin said: “Such kind sentiments re my Chelsea departure. Thank you all.

“So kind of everyone, but honestly don’t stress-others losing their jobs and now in dire financials circs are more worthy of consideration. I’m happy, busy.

“There are no bad feelings, you just shrug your shoulders and move on.

“A few people have told me I should be angry about the way I found out, but that’s not me. I’ve never really been like that.

“I’ve got no high expectations just because I played for the club or anything like that. You do a job and then you don’t.”
