My dad is a former Premier League star-turned-manager – now I’m making my own way and representing England
THE son of former Premier League star Shaun Derry has been chosen to represent England’s U17s.
Jesse Derry, 16, has been enjoying significant success with Crystal Palace’s U18 side this season.

His 10 goals in 14 league appearances has seen him selected for England’s UEFA Euro Championship elite round squad.
The Three Lions face Ireland, Hungary and France over the next week.
His father Shaun – who played 226 times for Palace in two separate spells – was left beaming with the news.
Derry Snr wrote on X: “Congratulations Son. We’re all so proud of you. Have a great week.”
It comes as no surprise to see manager Greg Lincoln name Derry – who experienced first team Palace training under Roy Hodgson earlier this season – in his U17 squad again this week.
The talented forward has already made three appearances for the U17s since emerging as a prolific youth team scorer in south London.
He recently won the February Goal of the Month award for an impressive scissor kick volley against Brighton U18s.
The We Are Palace site said: “Hopefully, Jesse – who can play on either wing – continues on his current trajectory, and emulates his father’s efforts at Selhurst Park.”

His father Shaun made 53 Premier League appearances for Palace and Queens Park Rangers.
The ex-defensive midfielder scored his only Premier League goal in QPR’s 3-2 win over Liverpool in 2012.
He joined Leeds United in between those stints, before signing a one-month loan deal with Millwall in 2013.
Derry was then appointed manager at Notts County and saved them from relegation from League One with a draw on the last day of the 2013-14 season.
After his sacking in 2016, he joined then League Two side Cambridge, before departing for Oxford, where he was happy to take a first-team coach role.
In 2019, Derry returned to his beloved Palace as a professional development coach in the club’s academy.
He earned promotion to coach under manager Patrick Vieira, but left a month before the Frenchman’s sacking.
Today, Derry is a first-team coach at Wolves, forming a crucial part of Gary O’Neil’s coaching staff.
In December, Rio Ferdinand commended Derry when revealing his pick for manager of the year.
He told TNT Sports: “I think Gary O’Neil has stood out, I had Wolves as relegation candidates at the beginning of the season.
“I think Gary has come in and done fabulously well, him and Shaun Derry have been brilliant and changed things around there.”
