The Gunners launched a bid ahead of their FA Cup defeat to Manchester City as they push to sign a midfielder before the window closes.

But Brighton rejected their £60m offer.

However, hours after the game at the Etihad Stadium, Caicedo took matters into his own hands on social media.

On Instagram he pleaded for the Seagulls to let him to leave.

He said: “I am grateful to Mr. Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.

“I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador.

“My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.

“I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

“The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity. ”

According to reports, Brighton aren’t going to be forced into selling the star.

But Caicedo appears to be dealing with the situation himself.

That’s because Fabrizio Romano claims that he failed to report for training on Saturday morning.

And The Athletic have revealed that he’s been told to stay away until the window closes on 1 February and won’t feature against Liverpool on Sunday.

Arsenal’s need for a centre midfielder might be about to become greater after Thomas Partey was forced off through injury at City.

And Mikel Arteta confirmed that the Ghana international will be sent for an MIR scan to reveal the extent of the problem.
