Mo Salah fights back tears as Liverpool star forced off with injury in Egypt’s Afcon 2023 clash

MOHAMED SALAH could be seen fighting back tears after being forced off injured at Afcon.

The Liverpool star was playing for Egypt in their group-stage clash against Ghana when he was forced off on the stroke of half-time.

His issue is suspected to be a hamstring injury with the forward reported to be holding his hamstring before going off.

But the Pharaohs were dealt a double-whammy blow with Mohammed Kudus netting the opener for Ghana a minute after Salah was taken off.

The extent of Salah‘s injury for now remains unclear.

Depending on the grade of Salah’s injury, the 31-year-old could be out for as many as six weeks, which would end his time at Afcon.

Low-grade hamstring injuries can see players miss one or two weeks of action.

However, larger injuries can take between two and six weeks.

Egypt only drew their opening Afcon game against Mozambique thanks to Salah netting a 97th-minute penalty, while he also registered an unorthodox assist in the 2-2 draw.

He had been at his brilliant best for Liverpool before linking up with his country for Afcon.

Salah had netted 18 goals and added nine assists in 27 games.

Liverpool sit top of the Premier League, two points ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa.

And their improvement between this season and last season has been clear to see, making them the joint-most improved side in the division.
