Michael van Gerwen shares health update after surgery as darts star reveals he’s planning to return NEXT WEEK

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN is set to return to the Pro Darts Tour next week after undergoing a successful surgery.

He has not played since the World Matchplay last month where he lost in the final to Luke Humphries.

Van Gerwen has struggled this year and has not won a tournament since the Dutch Masters in January.

His dip in form is partly because he was battling through discomfort in recent months as he awaited surgery on his teeth.

Van Gerwen, 35, went to hospital for the operation, which is the third time he has had the surgery.

The Dutchman revealed everything went as planned and he is eyeing a comeback to the oche next week.

He wrote on social media: “The surgery went well, and I’m feeling good!

“Ready to pick up the darts again next week at the Pro Tour. Thanks for all the support during this time.

“Now, it’s time to get back to work!”

Van Gerwen could appear at the Players Championship following his break, with the Dutchman previously explaining how the darts schedule was “killing” him.

The seven-time Premier League champion also shared detail on exactly what surgery he was having.

He said: “They are going to break and re-set my upper and lower jaw.

“My upper jaw they are going to take out six millimetres forward and my lower jaw they are going to put back just three millimetres.

“I have a big underbite, a penny bowl, as they call it. That bothers me a lot.

“Anyway with eating, your teeth also wear down and you snore more because of it.

“I’m also looking forward to it. I can’t bite through a slice of ham yet. You get fed up with that at some point.

“After this, I hope to put a stop to all the physical ailments.”
