But the Red Devils failed to get a deal over the line as they ended up landing Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich.

According to Caught Offside, Erik ten Hag remains a “big fan” of the World Cup winner.

And Man Utd representatives have reportedly met with Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique – who they met last summer when the deal collapsed.

Juventus are keen to keep hold of their man – who showed he can also play left-back when he filled in there for France at the World Cup.

And Veronique has built up a reputation as a tough agent to deal with.

Previously, she has clashed with sporting directors, demanded to meet managers and attend training sessions.

She wanted to go on a pre-season tour after her son signed his first pro forms with Paris Saint-Germain.

And when he was dropped to PSG’s reserves in a row over wages, she went public with her frustrations.

She said: “My son is a hostage of the club, he will soon live in prison on bread and water.”

Veronique also scuppered a move to Spurs in 2018 over her wage demands.

Rabiot has won one Serie A title, the Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup during his four seasons with Juventus – registering 17 goals and 12 assists in 177 appearances.
