Solskjaer, 51, spoke to Besiktas over the possibility of becoming manager in December.

He reportedly turned down an 18-month contract but the Black Eagles have not given up in their pursuit.

And they are ready to make another move for the Norwegian as they view him as the man to take on Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce, report The Mirror.

Former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders is understood to have rejected Besiktas.

The Turkish outfit are on the search for a new manager after sacking Fernando Santos following his sixth place finish, despite the fact he won the Turkish Cup.

Former West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is on their shortlist along with Sergen Yalcin and ex-Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin.

Solskjaer also turned down an approach from Sweden and in March revealed he was not ready to return to management.

He said: “I have a few offers but I’m not ready.
