He has now penned a one-year deal with Estrela, who finished 14th in the Primeira Liga last season.

They will be the TENTH different club of his much-travelled career.

Nani was born in Amadora, north-west of capital Lisbon, before going on to make his name with Sporting and then United.

He won four Premier League titles, the Champions League, two League Cups and a Club World Cup during eight years at Old Trafford.

Estrela announced: “Luis Nani has gone back to his roots. The Portuguese international returns to Portugal to play for Estrela da Amadora on a one-year contract.

“The footballer will once again play in the Portuguese league, in the city of Amadora – a city that is particularly special to him.

“It is where he grew up, and where his footballing adventure began.

“A city that saw a boy become a man and an elite athlete, who won virtually everything in the world of football.

“He made the city proud of his progress as a player, and above all as a person.

“Everything he has done for the city, showing solidarity and social responsibility, now culminates with him joining Estrela da Amadora.”

Nani will combine playing for his new team with owning fourth-division side SU Sintrense.

He and a group of investors last month bought a majority stake in the 112-year-old club, based near Amadora.

The winger left United for Fenerbahce in 2015, and has had two spells back at his first club Sporting Lisbon.
