His 25 per cent take over was ratified this week, several months after an agreement was struck with the Glazers.

And Ratcliffe is already making moves after appointing Man City’s Omar Berrada as United’s new chief executive.

He now hopes to prise Dan Ashworth from Newcastle as his new director of football.

And plans are afoot to transform Old Trafford into the “Wembley of the North.”

But in the meantime, Ratcliffe is ready to boost the area around United’s stadium after exciting new plans were unveiled.

Trafford Council confirmed on Friday that talks are underway for a “Trafford Wharfside masterplan”, turning the area around the Theatre of Dreams into a “key emerging neighbourhood.”

Up to 5,000 new homes could be built, while Trafford Wharfside will be connected to the city centre as it becomes a “greener” and more “natural” area to “address the climate crisis.”

But United fans are particularly excited about the news in relation to their club.

Trafford council added that the project will develop “a high-quality setting for Manchester United as they develop their plans for a world-class football stadium.”

And one fan reacted: “What is Sir Jim cooking?”

Another declared: “INEOS are working fast!”

One noted: “Exciting times…”

Another added: “I’m so happy SJR is proving me wrong, what a man.”

The report on the draft plan will be discussed at a council meeting later this month.

And a public consultation will be launched in the near future.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “The Trafford Wharfside masterplan offers a regeneration vision for a hugely important area within Trafford.

“This area takes in the world-famous sporting institution that is Manchester United as well as other major sites including the Imperial War Museum and the Manchester Ship Canal.

“Across the water we can see the transformation of MediaCity and we know this area will too see great change over future years.

“We want to help shape that new development positively through the Trafford Wharfside Development Framework and Masterplan.

“Working with our partners and private developers, we will be looking to create new homes, new neighbourhoods and help create a world-class setting for the Manchester United stadium.

“This is an exciting time for Trafford – with many major building schemes up and running. I am delighted that the Trafford Wharfside area is the focus of this important future planning.”

Collette Roche, Chief Operating Officer at Manchester United, added: “This vision for Trafford Wharfside is tremendously exciting and we are proud to be supporting Trafford Council with their ambitious plans for an area with such huge potential.

“We will continue to work closely with the council, and other local stakeholders, on how any future development work at Old Trafford can complement their vision and, most importantly, benefit the local community.”
