MANCHESTER UNITED fans are concerned that star winger Alejandro Garnacho could miss the start of next season.

The 19-year-old could be set to play in two international tournaments this summer with Argentina that would likely see him report for his club duties after the start of the new campaign.

Garnacho, who was a standout player for United last season, has already been called up to the Argentina national squad for the Copa America this summer.

The teenager will join Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the tournament which is being held in the USA and gets underway on June 20.

The competition will then run until July 14 when Garnacho would normally be expected to have a short break before returning to Manchester to begin pre-season training with the Red Devils.

However, that may not be the case for the FA Cup winning hero who, according to TNT Sports Argentina, has been called up to the Argentina squad for the Olympics immediately after.

It’s claimed that Javier Mascherano, who is in charge of the Argentina Olympic football team this summer, has requested permission for Garnacho to join his side in Paris for the Olympic games.

Should Argentina go all the way to the final then they would see their Olympic campaign run from July 25 through to August 9.

The late finish would almost certainly mean that after a recovery break, Garnacho would return to Manchester United after the Premier League season had restarted on August 17.

While Man Utd’s FA Cup success means they will play in the Community Shield at Wembley the day after the Olympics concludes.

Man Utd fans have been left fuming at the possibility of losing Garnacho for the first few fixtures of the season, while others are concerned at the heavy load he will take on from so much game time through the summer.

On social media, one fan wrote: “Hell no! He is already going for Copa.”

While another added: “His legs are gonna be gone by 25…”

A third commented: “Allow this boy to rest please.”

And a fourth fumed: “Do they want his legs to fall off?”

United fans shouldn’t get too upset just yet as there is something the club can do to block Garnacho from heading to Paris with the Argentinian Olympic team.

Fifa rules mean that professional football clubs do not have to release their players for the Olympics in the same way that they are obliged to allow players to compete in international tournaments.

Should Man Utd wish to stand in Garnacho’s way and ensure his fitness and availability for the upcoming season then they can stop him from participating in the Olympics.
