Man Utd chief executive Richard Arnold ‘believes club is making good progress’ as Ten Hag ‘gets FULL backing of board’

MANCHESTER UNITED chief Richard Arnold has claimed the club are “making good progress” despite their dismal 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, according to reports.

The Red Devils were humbled by their local rivals at Old Trafford as an Erling Haaland brace and a third from Phil Foden handed Pep Guardiola’s men a comfortable victory.

The result leaves United eight points adrift of the top four and 11 below table toppers Tottenham.

They have already lost five league matches out of ten – the first time they have done so since 1986.

Yet according to Manchester Evening News, club chief Arnold insists they are “making good progress”.

The same report states manager Erik ten Hag “retains the full backing of the board”.

But it was the claim that they are progressing that has left the Old Trafford faithful fuming.

Reacting on social media, one person said: “What progress? The club is a joke to them obviously.”

Another added: “If I was doing a bad job and wanted to justify my poor work, I’d be saying this too.”

While a third replied: “This club is laughable.”

And a fourth said: “Which Manchester United? Does he watch the games?”

Arnold is expected to be axed from his position if Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent takeover of the club is confirmed.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has a contract until 2025 but is receiving heavy criticism for his side’s start to the season.

And his decision to substitute Rasmus Hojlund in the 73rd minute on Sunday was roundly booed by United fans.

Next up is a Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle on Wednesday, before they travel to Fulham on Saturday.
