Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag ‘demands transfer veto’ as new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe revamps failing scouting department

ERIK TEN HAG is reportedly demanding he keeps his transfer veto as Sir Jim Ratcliffe plans an overhaul of Manchester United’s scouting department.

The British billionaire has completed his 25 per cent minority takeover.

And Ratcliffe is now looking to transform United’s efforts in the market after taking control of football operations.

He is ready to put an end to big-money splurges on flop players by appointing two top names to United’s recruitment field.

Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth and ex-Tottenham chief scout Paul Mitchell are both being lined up for a move to Old Trafford.

But ESPN claims Ten Hag is worried about his own say in future deals.

And the Dutchman insists he retains his right to veto transfers as per an agreement in his contract.

In the meantime, Ratcliffe’s No2 Sir Dave Brailsford will look to secure a deal for Toon man Ashworth – despite him only joining the Magpies from Brighton 18 months ago.

A source said: “Sir Dave will go all out for Ashworth. This is what he is good at – getting the right people in, in the right roles.

“He won’t interfere with coaching or tell a manager which players to sign. He will get the right man in to do that. And he always gets his man.”

It remains to be seen what business United do this month, with the club currently restricted to loan deals.

The likes of RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are on Ten Hag’s list.

As for outgoings, Sergio Reguilon’s loan deal from Tottenham has already been terminated.
