Man Utd AGREE transfer fee with Chelsea for Mason Mount as Ten Hag set to make first capture of the summer

MANCHESTER UNITED have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount.

The Red Devils are desperate to land the Blues midfielder, whose Stamford Bridge contract expires next year.

They had three bids rejected for Mount by Chelsea, including the third of £55million last Friday.

That prompted the Old Trafford club to consider pulling out of negotiations altogether, as Bayern Munich circled.

But now SunSport understands the two Premier League rivals have struck a deal.

United will pay £55m up front with an extra £5m in potential add-ons.

Chelsea had set their asking price at £65m – a steep fee considering Mount had rejected all contract offers and is keen to leave.

Personal terms will not be an issue for the 24-year-old at United.

And that means Mount is set to become Erik ten Hag’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

A midfielder has been a top priority for the Dutchman.

Moises Caicedo, Mohammed Kudus and Taylor Booth were all lined up as possible alternative options should the Mount move collapse.

But now the 36-cap Three Lions man will become a key cog in the Red Devils’ side as they return to the Champions League this season.

Mount came through the youth academy at Chelsea and excelled on loan at Vitesse and Derby before becoming a regular at his boyhood club.

He has scored 33 goals in 195 first-team appearances and lifted the Champions League in 2021, followed by the Super Cup and Club World Cup.

The three-time FA Cup runner-up had hoped to emulate John Terry and become a Chelsea legend.

But contract talks broke down before he decided to continue his career elsewhere.

Chelsea are hopeful of securing a deal to sign Caicedo from Brighton.

And Mauricio Pochettino’s side could now turn to Celta Vigo man Gabri Veiga, who has a £34m release clause.

Ten Hag still wants to add a top-class striker to his team this summer to be the main focal point of the attack – and add much-needed goals.

Harry Kane is wanted while Goncalo Ramos is another option.

A new goalkeeper could also be on the transfer shopping list at Old Trafford if David De Gea fails to agree a contract extension.

Inter Milan stopper Andre Onana could be the likely replacement.
