Machester City win EPL through Manchester United
Manchester City has won their seventh league title in the English Premier League. This also happens to be their fifth title in the last ten seasons as well as their third one in the last four seasons.
The Citizens were crowned champions after second placed Manchester United lost at home o Leicester City FC. Manchester United lost 2-1 at Old Trafford to Leicester to remain at 70 points, with City also having 80 points with three matches to spare.
They won the league for the first time in 1936–37 when it was known as the First Division and then got the second one in 1967–68 season. The Sky Blues made their triumph in the current English Premier League in 2011–12, 2013–14, 2017–18, 2018–19 and now 2020–21.
The season has been a better one for City; they placed second to Liverpool last season and lost out at the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions league.
Pep Guardiola’s side was expected to wrap up their league title last Saturday when they played host to Chelsea at their Etihad Stadium. They lost 1-2 to the Blues to postpone their triumph for the title.
This also happens to be Guardiola’s ninth league title as a manager and his personal third with the Citizens in his five seasons spell with them.
He has now won ten titles in all with Manchester City; four EFL cups, two community shields, one FA cup and three league titles.
The Spanish coach also led his side to win the EFL Cup last month but unfortunately lost to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea by a lone goal in the semi- finals of the FA Cup.
They are due to face Chelsea again in their first ever finals of the UEFA Champions League on May 29, 2021 at Wembley.
