Humphries, 29, came back from 6-2 down to sink ‘The Nuke’ 7-6.

That comeback set up a clash with Aussie Damon Heta, who booked his spot in the final with a dominant win over Peter Wright.

Heta well and truly lived up to his moniker against Wright in the semis

But he was unable to bring ‘The Heat’ against Humphries, who won the tournament thanks to an 8-2 victory.

Speaking moments after winning his first World Series title, Humphries said: “Little did I know I’d have to go the furthest away to win it.

“I’ve been searching for this [for a long time].

“I didn’t think I’d win a world title before I won a world series, but it happened that way.

“I felt one was coming but my performances over the last two years in the world series haven’t been as sound as I wanted them to [be].

“Today, they still were not my best. But they were good enough.”
