Lionel Messi: Lewandowski Reacts To PSG Star’s 7th Ballon d’Or Award
Striker of the year winner, Robert Lewandowski, has reacted to Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi 7th Ballon d’Or award.
Naija News reports that Messi was on Monday night announced the winner of this year’s men Ballon d’Or award.
A development that saw the Argentine International extending his winning by two ahead of Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Reacting to Messi’s new achievement, Lewandowski congratulated the former Barcelona star and also paid tribute to Alexia Putellas, the winner of the women’s Ballon d’Or award, as well as all other nominated players.
Naija News understands that Messi finished with 613 points by pole, while runner-up Lewandowski amassed 580.
However, despite the disappointing loss, Lewandowski took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Messi on winning his seventh Ballon d’Or award.
The Polish international and Bayern Munich striker tweeted: “Congratulations Leo Messi and Alexia Putellas, winners of the Ballon d’Or 2021; congratulations also to all nominated players! I won the ‘Striker of the Year’ Award, and no player can win an individual award without the strongest team and loyal fans behind him. Thank you for your support.”
Meanwhile, Portugal national team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday finished sixth on the list of the top ten players who contended for the 2021 Ballon d’Or award.
The Manchester United forward had only won the most prestigious individual player award five-times.
