Erling Haaland blazed a penalty over the bar in Germany before scoring his 48th goal of the season to put them ahead on the night and stretch their advantage.
Joshua Kimmich’s late spot-kick made it 1-1, but Bayern were unable to stop City progressing 4-1 on aggregate and setting-up a semi-final showdown with Real Madrid.
Ex-City ace Sane, who left the Etihad for Bayern in 2020, was among the opposition against his former club.
And it was his old manager Guardiola that was left to console him following the final whistle.
One image showed the winger holding his face with one hand, apparently rubbing tears from his eyes with his fist.
Guardiola then offered his hand before taking a moment to speak with the emotional 27-year-old.
A second photo then appeared to show the City chief examining Sane’s bruised lip which occurred after he was allegedly punched by team-mate Sadio Mane last week following the first-leg.
Sane started the game last night while Mane, who was suspended and fined for the incident, was left on the bench before replacing the German attacker in the 67th minute and briefly touching hands as they switched.

Sane, who pulled an early shot wide of the post yesterday, told BT Sport afterwards: “Today was a good game from us, strong game, I have to score and make it 1-0.
“City got a lot of pressure, it is tough as we lost first game away 3-0, it shouldn’t have happened. Today we could have done a lot, it’s tough for me with a big chance.
“I think we had good control, won lots of balls in midfield, if I score I would like to know how the game went.
“I know the team quite well and how strong they are at home, if you concede three goals away in first leg it’s tough, they know how to control the game.
“It’s really annoying how it went especially how we played today, the team played really well and I’m proud of that, we have to keep up the spirit and focus on the league.
“Yes they do (play unbelievable), everyone likes how they play, congrats to them.”
