CLINT DEMPSEY has revealed how Thierry Henry could have saved him after opening up about his tough childhood.
The former Premier League star reduced Kate Abdo to tears as he discussed his upbringing and career on CBS Sports.

Speaking to Abdo and Henry, Dempsey explained: “You talk about being from a place you should have never made it in the sport.
“Man, I’m from nowhere. I mean, I love where I’m from. Nacogdoches. I’m very prideful of where I come from, Texas, but like it’s a rural town not known for soccer.
“People always looked at you crazy for the sport you played, right? Why aren’t you playing baseball, football, basketball? It’s just what I love to do.”
Abdo was visibly emotional as she listened to Dempsey and could be seen holding back tears as he spoke.
The 40-year-old then turned to Henry and continued: “And I wish I’d have had someone like you, coach, that could help me more.
“I had great coaches, they helped me. But like a coach that you had, something like that, what could I have really done? I did okay. You know what I’m saying? But not like… but I’m at peace.”
Dempsey became a cult hero during his time in England with Fulham and Tottenham.
Across 218 Premier League appearances, he scored 57 goals, making him the league’s highest scoring American of all-time.

He is also his country’s joint-leading scorer in history, tied with Landon Donovan on 57 goals from his 141 caps.
Dempsey was a member of three USA World Cup squads during his career before retiring in 2018 aged 35.
